Flavia Popescu-Richardson

EIT Venture Award

Flavia Popescu-Richardson has built her career where breakthrough science meets the capital it needs. As founder of Acclivity Ventures, she has supported more than 60 clients in the past three years, helping Europe's deep-tech and life sciences founders turn research into fundable, scalable companies, from their first grant to an institutional funding round.

Few people have seen innovation from as many sides of the table. As an investor with P&O's investment arm, the London Co-Investment Fund and Beacon Capital, she supported more than 150 technology companies. As vice-president in Silicon Valley Bank's Early Stage Practice, she helped grow its EMEA portfolio by over 200 companies and £400 million, originating venture debt. As chief commercial officer at Velocity Juice, she launched £20 million in debt products, and at the University of Essex she has championed spin-outs and research commercialisation.

For more than six years, she has assessed Europe's most ambitious innovators for the European Commission, and today serves as an expert coach and jury member for the EIC Accelerator. She also mentors founders with London & Partners and 360 Capital.

Trained in law, finance and project management, Flavia asks two questions of every venture: Can this team reshape its market, and is it ready to?
