15 Years of EIT Impact: Discover the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs)

Thanks to the continued support and strategic guidance of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the EIT KICs have driven innovation across Europe and fostered Europe’s competitiveness by bolstering entrepreneurial education and skills development, research-driven innovation, and business creation and acceleration across Europe.
Dive into each of the EIT KICs' thematic impact with the publication of the EIT KIC factsheets.
Each factsheet provides a snapshot of the EIT KICs' key activities, illustrating their extensive partnership network, geographical reach, impact numbers, and success stories. Testimonials from partners and beneficiaries showcase the real-world benefits of EIT support, demonstrating how these communities have transformed ideas into market-ready solutions, and equipped students and innovators with the skills needed to launch their businesses.
Additionally, the factsheets offer valuable insights into the progress of the EIT KICs in achieving financial sustainability—a unique characteristic of the EIT model among EU instruments. EIT KICs have demonstrated the ability to leverage public funding, turning every one euro up to eight euros in return. In a first for EU funding, the EIT has successfully steered its first three EIT KICs, Climate-KIC, EIT Digital, and EIT InnoEnergy to achieve financial sustainability beyond 2025. By developing long-term funding strategies, the EIT KICs continue to strengthen Europe's innovation capacity, ensuring lasting impact beyond EIT funding.
With a Call for Proposals currently open to launch its next Knowledge and Innovation Community in water, marine and maritime ecosystems, the EIT Community currently counts nine KICs, each dedicated to tackling a major societal challenge through innovation. From climate change and health to digital transformation and sustainable energy, the EIT KICs bring together leading partners from business, research, and education to tackle Europe’s main challenges through innovation. With local offices across Europe – in every EU Member State and beyond – the EIT Community forms Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem, connecting local innovation ecosystems with the resources of its vast Europe-wide network.
