EIT Climate-KIC: European Climate Change Adaptation conference in Glasgow

EIT Climate-KIC participated in the 3rd European Climate Change Adaptation conference in Glasgow this week.
EIT Climate-KIC’s CEO, Kirsten Dunlop, joined an interactive panel session during the ECCA Business Day to discuss opportunities for businesses to prepare for a world facing climate change.
Innovation Day
Climate-KIC was a co-sponsor of ECCA’s first Innovation Day alongside Innovate UK and Edinburgh Carbon Centre for Innovation, during which we co-hosted the Glasgow Climate Resilience Innovation Challenge.
Glasgow Resilience Innovation Challenge
As part of the Innovation Day, Climate-KIC, Innovate UK, ECCI, and Glasgow City Council hosted the pitching competition for the Glasgow Climate Resilience Innovation Challenges competition.
The challenges were:
CHALLENGE 1: Innovative solutions to help Glasgow reduce its flood risk that can be retrofitted to commercial or residential properties
CHALLENGE 2: Innovative ways to engage stakeholders and communities to act to address Glasgow’s climate resilience and environmental challenges
Pitching finals
Organisations pitched for the challenges to a jury before the jury selected the finalists and invited them to pitch in front of an open audience.
Challenge One Finalists:
- Sudsbox
- rainwater harvesting
- OTA analytics
Challenge Two Finalists:
Watertable – Nadfly
- River Change – Heriot watt university + Bespoke Atelier
- Leaky Barrel – ERZ, Environ Centre
- Bounty – Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Imperial College, Westcountry Rivers Trust, Institute for Environment Analytics
The finalists pitched to the audience before the judges decided on the final winners for the two challenges.

During Innovation Day, EIT Climate-KIC launched its new Climate Change Adaptation Approach.
Over the next five years, EIT Climate-KIC will strengthen its work on adaptation innovation, taking an outcome-oriented approach. We will use innovation as a tool to lever changes that help to tackle key European and global adaptation challenges; aligning with existing international initiatives and policy framework.
