EIT Health Annual Report 2024: Advancing Health Innovation Across Europe

The EIT Health Annual Report 2024 highlights a year defined by tangible impact at a time of growing strain on Europe’s health systems. Ageing populations, the rising burden of chronic disease, workforce and skills shortages, and the need to safely deploy digital and data-driven solutions continued to test healthcare systems across the continent.

Against this backdrop, EIT Health demonstrated how Europe’s innovation model can deliver change where it matters most. Across the EIT Health network, members translated innovation into results: patients accessed life-changing solutions, entrepreneurs scaled ambitious ideas into global businesses, learners gained skills to drive transformation, and policymakers engaged with a trusted partner supporting more resilient health systems.

Innovation with a Human Impact

The results of this work can be seen in innovations that directly improve patient care and quality of life:

  • a cardiac patient treated safely within minutes through Corify Care’s ACORYS® (Spain), enabling clinicians to pinpoint sources of arrhythmia rapidly without the risks of invasive procedures;
  • a young woman preserving dignity during chemotherapy thanks to Luminate Medical (Ireland), which uses advanced compression technology to help protect hair follicles during treatment;
  • a person living with diabetes gaining confidence and control through Vitadio’s (Czechia) digital therapy app, combining AI-supported coaching with clinical oversight to improve daily disease management.

These examples illustrate the power of collaboration: when Europe’s leading minds work together, bold ideas are transformed into trusted solutions delivering measurable benefits for patients and citizens.

Impact in Numbers

In 2024 alone, EIT Health:

  • launched 12 new healthcare innovations, reaching more than 283 000 patients and citizens;
  • supported 372 startups and scaleups, which together raised €227 million in investment;
  • enabled more than 6 000 learners to acquire skills to lead transformation across the health sector.

Since 2016, EIT Health has supported 135 innovations and 3 370 ventures, helped attract €2.4 billion in investment, trained 70 000 learners, and positively impacted more than 780 000 lives through its innovations.

Strength Through the Knowledge Triangle

EIT Health’s distinctive strength lies not only in outcomes, but in approach. By bringing together the full Knowledge Triangle – business, research and education – alongside healthcare delivery, EIT Health builds pan-European consortia that combine creativity with interdisciplinary expertise. This integrated model ensures that innovations are not developed in isolation. Instead, they are co-created with the evidence, expertise and pathways needed to reach the market and, ultimately, the patients and citizens who need them most.

Looking Ahead

In 2024, EIT Health supported innovation across digital health, medical technologies and skills development, delivering measurable benefits for patients and health systems. By supporting startups, strengthening workforce capabilities and engaging with policymakers, EIT Health accelerated the uptake of innovations from research into real-world healthcare practice.

Looking ahead to FP10, the EU’s next research and innovation framework programme from 2028, EIT Health remains committed to building on this impact, guided by its  strategy and a focused set of healthcare priorities, including digital transformation.
