Dutch Climate-KIC start-up Eternal Sun takes over American rival Spire Solar

Dutch start-up Eternal Sun, a high-tech company dedicated to next generation solar testing has taken over its competitor Spire Solar.

Spire Solar, founded in 1969, is a leading global manufacturer of solar testing equipment, which provides customers with exceptional performance. Eternal Sun, a Climate-KIC start-up founded in 2011 work in a similar domain but but finds its customers mainly at major scientific institutions such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Netherlands Energy Research Centre and the technical conglomerate Avic from China.

Taking over the market-listed company is a huge step for the Dutch start-up. With this move Eternal Sun becomes one of the largest global players in the market with easier access to the Asian market as Spire Solar already has an office in Taiwan. The knowledge and know-how of both companies will be merged.

Vermec, an investment fund owned by the Belgian Verhaeren family, will be supporting this acquisition. Vermec invested €2 million in Eternal Sun last year and will now invest again.

Dutch newspaper FD has more information about the deal (in Dutch).
