EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative hits half a million learners trained and launches new courses

The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) is pleased to announce the milestone of training over half a million learners under the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative and the launch of new training courses. Since being launched by the EIT in 2023, the programme is well on track to skill one million learners in deep tech fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, advanced computing and robotics by 2025.
Deep Tech innovations – cutting-edge technology solutions combining fields of science and engineering in the physical, biological and digital spheres – are indispensable in creating solutions to the most pressing global challenges. However, Europe lacks the talent and skilled labour force necessary to properly leverage the new technologies to enable its green and digital transition. As Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem, the EIT, in line with the European Commission's New European Innovation Agenda, is developing a strong deep tech talent pool across all Member States through the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative to boost deep tech expertise in Europe, accelerate innovation and address the most pressing global challenges
'Training over half a million deep tech learners, in record timing is a remarkable achievement for the EIT and its partners. We are proud to be shaping the future of Europe’s innovation landscape by equipping a new generation with the skills to lead in cutting-edge technologies.' Stefan Dobrev, Chairperson of the EIT Governing Board
2024 TRAINING COURSES TO BE LAUNCHED
In addition to targeting and training workers, the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative is bringing together organisations to fund the creation of new courses, training and skills development programmes. After receiving a record number of proposals, the 2024 Call for Training Proposals is being awarded to 42 organisations through 15 projects aimed at pioneering the future of deep tech education and skill development across Europe.
Over EUR 2M will be distributed among the 15 projects which comprise organisations such Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (Greece) Czech Technical University in Prague (Czechia), Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy), Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (Germany), TechLabs Rotterdam (Netherlands), University of Barcelona (Spain), University of Latvia (Latvia), and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Poland), as well as SMEs, associations, and NGOs.
The funded projects aim to train at least 7 500 more learners across the following deep tech areas:
- Aritificial Intelligence (AI) applied to specific sectors
- AI Robotics Academy
- Advanced Computing/Quantum Computing
- AI-assisted Software Engineering for Quantum Computing and Post-Quantum-Cryptography
- Advanced End-to-end Quantum computing Technical course
- Micro-credential in Being Quantum-Ready: challenges and opportunities
- Cybersecurity
- CyberShield Innovators: Pioneering the Future of Digital Security
- Trust4Future: Trust, Identity and Privacy
- Adv. Materials
- Deep-tech driven inclusive and socially-aware circular material joining & welding
- Robotics
