VoiceMed (Italy), developed a software that analyses a recording from a user’s voice or breath and identifies if there are vocal biomarkers that are considered abnormal or normal, and gives back the results in a few seconds. The software includes several proprietary algorithms, with a different technical architecture from the publicly available research, with a proprietary dataset that is now considered the biggest worldwide for respiratory health and voice. EIT Health and EIT Digital supported VoiceMed through its innovation programs, mentoring, and funding.

One of the most rewarding moments was hearing from a user who performed the test on her father—who had been coughing for months. Thanks to our app, she encouraged him to get a check-up, and he was diagnosed early with COPD. Knowing we’ve helped even one family change the course of their health is why we do this.
